Jeancourt Afrino Stud was established in 2004 by the implantation of 87 South African sourced embryos. We decided to investigate the Afrino as it became clear that significant quantities of lamb will need to be grown in marginal farming and pastoral areas, in conditions which have traditionally been used to provide bulk mid-micron wool. Afrino’s were initially developed at the South African Department of Agriculture's Carnarvon Agricultural Research Station, an area similar to the Broken Hill and Western Division areas.

Afrinos are a white merino wooled breed designed to provide hardiness, fertility and growth equivalent to AWEX listed contaminating breeds without issues of merino wool contamination
